Cloud Security Alliance started off its official chapter in Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India, in 2013 in recognition of India’s role as a major stakeholder in Cloud computing. The Cloud Security Alliance is world’s leading organization with a mission to promote and educate on the best practices for providing security assurance within cloud computing.
Chaired by Mr. Sandip Kumar Panda, the co-founder and CEO of InstaSafe Technologies, the Bangalore chapter convened the CSA Bangalore Summit 2018 at Vivanta by Taj, MG Road on 14th June 2018. The Summit focused on global governance, the latest trends in Cloud and Information Security, the changing threat landscape, security innovations like Software Defined Perimeter and the best practices to help organizations win the new frontiers in cloud security.
The day kicked off with Dr. Hing-Yan Lee, EVP, CSA APAC, highlighting how individuals and organizations can leverage various certifications and offerings from CSA for their growth.
We had the pleasure to see Mr. Ravikishor Mundada, CEO, Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, Dept of ITBT, Govt of Karnataka. This was an insightful session on the steps taken up by Govt of Karnataka in acknowledgment of the rising cybersecurity risks. COEs are the first steps towards the solution and thus, he welcomed startups to leverage the facilities with a collaborative approach. He discussed on future chances of CSA and Dept of ITBT together, taking this journey forward.
Next, Mr. Nikhil Bandi, CIO and Senior VP and CISO, Vistaar Finance shared on his personal experiences of the changing security adoption landscape in India, especially in the Financial Sector.
Mr. Biswajit De, Senior Technical Consultant, Trend Micro in India was kind enough to explain the new advancements in the space and how they are helping customers overcome challenges related to information protection and providing technical solutions for easy deployment and its sustenance.
Followed was a panel discussion on “Analysing Cloud Adoption issues & trends in APAC countries”. This was an open house which helped clear the doubts in the minds of the attendees and made them understand their first steps towards security adoption. The Panelists for the session were:

Post lunch, Mr. Vikas Mathur, co-founder of RightCloudz Technologies, discussed further on, “Evolving a security and privacy-focused CLEaaS-Cloud Evaluation as a Service”. He enlightened about making the right choices when it comes to evaluating and choosing the right type of cloud-based assets and services.
Mr. Sudheesh Babu, GM & Head, Strategy-Cybersecurity & Risk Services, WIPRO was humble to introduce the crowd to a Risk-Based approach to Cloud Security. He comes with rich expertise and experience in Governance, Risk and Compliance Consulting. He believes that it is never enough when it comes to Enterprise Risk Management and IT Risk Management. But it is time that the enterprises brace up and take the initial steps towards the evolving risk scenarios, especially with the introduction of GDPR.
The next session was by Mr. Suresh Agarwal, the Founder and Managing Director of Agarwal Pte Ltd. and Infotech Global Pte Ltd. He engaged the crowd on a very interesting topic, “How many 9s are enough” when it comes to establishing infrastructure support for the customers.
Mr. Biju George, CTO & Co-founder of InstaSafe enlightened the crowd on the aspects of Software Defined Perimeter in the session after tea, where he explained how InstaSafe is using the SDP concept of cloud security to turn the secured application area into a non-traceable black zone for security attackers/hackers. He popularised the concept of access, only after authentication and authorization, through InstaSafe Secure Access which is essential for the present-day enterprise security.
The Director of Research at CSA APAC, Mr. Haojie Zhuang delivered a talk on “Cloud Access Security Brokers – Are they Just Another Fancy Term?”. Mr. Haojie comes with an experience in conceptualizing and managing data-driven initiatives.
The day came to an end with the most compelling topic of the time, “GDPR”. Everyone was keen on understanding how CSA could help through GDPR and Compliance related issues. This was delivered by David Siah, the Chairman of Singapore Chapter and Head of Channel & Distribution (APAC, Middle East, Africa), Trend Micro Singapore.
The summit focused on global governance, the latest trends in technology, the threat landscape, security innovations and best practices in order to help organizations address the new frontiers in cloud security. The belief is to take a collaborative approach that makes everyone a winner. The crowd found the sessions quite enriching and informative.
